WOODLAND RAISED PORK
Here on Johnson Farm, we believe in raising animals the way nature intended. That's why we're incredibly proud to raise American Guinea Hogs, a heritage breed that perfectly embodies our commitment to sustainability, quality, and humane animal husbandry.
Choosing the American Guinea Hog wasn't an accident; it was a deliberate decision rooted in their unique characteristics that make them such a wonderful fit for our farm here in the Sandhills region of North Carolina
.As a heritage breed, the American Guinea Hog represents a link to America's agricultural past. Once common on small homesteads, their numbers dwindled with the rise of industrial agriculture. By raising them, we are actively participating in the conservation of this valuable genetic resource, preserving a breed known for its resilience and suitability for small-scale farming.
Beyond their suitability for our farm, the end product is truly exceptional. American Guinea Hog pork is renowned for its quality:
Flavor: It's a rich, distinctly porky flavor – often described as "what pork used to taste like."
Texture: The meat is darker red than commercial pork, beautifully marbled, tender, and incredibly moist.
Lard: AGHs produce exceptional lard. It's clean, white, and highly prized by chefs and bakers for its neutral flavor and excellent properties in cooking and pastry making.
